Info

Info: This is the Fender Mark Knopfler Signature Strat with the serial number SE 00000. It is  not the prototype, in other words not the very first one that Fender made when Mark and them designed the MK signature model but probably one of the very first (or the first) with the final specs.

On the 2008 tour this guitar was used for What it is and Sailing to Philadelphia and was strung with 010 strings. It is likely that on tours before and  later  the same guitar was played on these songs again.

As far as I can tell all on this guitar is stock and has the same specs as the MK Signature Strat you can buy: Texas Special pickups, ash body, hot rod red finish etc.

Mark has several of his own signature model so it is often difficult to tell which one is which, check out this blog post for more info on this.

  1. No, I haven’t (I don’t even have a MK sig Strat…) but they fit in any Strat and are a great upgrade, you need a push/pull poti to switch between full and tapped coil.

  2. Hey Ingo, I recently saw something very interesting. Fender custom shop relic Mark Knopfler signature, Yuriy Shiskov masterbuild. In the description it sais that it has nitrocellulose finish unlike the regular mk signature series strat. Does it mean that regular is poly finished? Also it sais that it has kloppmann pickups and treble bleed on pots. Price is as i remember around 4000 euros.

    1. The MK sig strat should be nitro, I cannot find it in the specs on the Fender site but this is what everybody states…
I am pretty much sure that Mark himself really plays the Texas Specials so Klopman PUs do not seem to make much sense here (?)

  3. Hi Ingo, interesting information regarding string gauge. I thought MK always used 9’s on strats and 10’s on Les Pauls? Does he use 10’s exclusively now?
    Best regards,

  4. I sure wish I could find one of these. If you know where one is for sail i would be interested.
