In my opinion, Tunnel of Love is on neck+middle, see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE1CtgQvAH4 around 5:30
You are probably right for the video, but as it was said on the post linked below, he changed PU combination during the song :
http://www.mk-guitar.com/2011/02/22/why-do-certain-pickups-like-stratocaster-pick-ups-from-the-50ies-or-the-schecter-f500t-die-so-often/
for the studio version, it’s hard to say if it was exactly the same combination he used live, Mark often changed sound (even guitar) on live versions compared to studio versions
Ingo, i don’t think Solid Rock was recorded with a Tele on the studio album. For me it sound like a typical stratocaster sound.
Hi Roman,
it’s me who wrote most of infos on these albums gear pages.
Of course there’s a lot of speculation, and we will never know for sure. That’s why I often write question marks, as I don’t pretend to know the truth 🙂
We think that in most of the case, the guitar used on a song on the tour right after an album release is likely the one used in studio, but course, it’s not always the case.
maybe you are right and maybe it’s a strato, I don’t know
FWIW, Mark can be seen in the studio recording Solid Rock on his maple neck Strat in the Arena documentary from around that time. I realise this doesn’t mean that’s what’s on the record, in fact the recording he’s working on doesn’t seem to be the final release, but it’s a little more info for people to think about.
That is not from the Making Movies recording sessions but some months earlier, before he got the Schecters. There were plans for a 3-track single with Solid Rock, What’s the Matter with you Baby & Twisting by the Pool I think but it was never released.
On the topic of that clip, i’m sure there was a mismatch between the backing track and the guitar part mark was playing that stuck out, probably a one-bar difference. But anyway, I was angling for that specific guitar sound for ages on a strat, with the pristine quality yet the explosive distortion when the accents hit.
